About the department

The Department of Automobile Engineering was established in the year 2006.

Automobile Industry has garnered immense appreciation since the realization of vehicle’s capacity to ease routine migration. Excessive demand of reliable, modern yet high on comfort vehicles has made automobile engineering the most sought-after field in today’s times, worldwide.

At Indus this department endeavours to teach the design, development, fabrication, and testing of components/systems of vehicles from their conceptual to realization stage. During the programme one learns about integration of basic and fundamental concepts of mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer and safety engineering aspects. It allows students to have deep study of various subjects within four years of graduation. The discipline prepares students to build new ideas & possibilities in the field of research & development of technologies and explore future sustainability of automobile industry.

There are many automobile engineering colleges in Ahmedabad, but Indus University is counted as one of the Top Automobile Engineering Colleges in Ahmedabad.

The department has well-maintained high-quality laboratories like:

  • Automobile Engines Laboratory
  • Automobile Systems Laboratory
  • Vehicle Maintenance & Garage Practice Workshop
  • Automobile Component Design Laboratory
  • Two-Wheeler & Three Wheelers Laboratory
  • Automobile Electrical & Electronics Laboratory
  • Automobile Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Laboratory and more.

To sum up, automobile engineering department endlessly works towards transforming their promising students into proficient engineers.

Introduction

Bachelor of Technology in Automobile Engineering is a four-year programme, designed to impart diverse skills sets to students. The skills are divided into four types: In the first year focus is to refine soft, cognitive and aptitude skills, in the second year fundamentals of engineering are touched upon, third and fourth years contains technical skills, in total, entire curriculum grooms students into an accomplished engineer. Also, workshops are conducted at intervals to give hands-on-experience to students, combining theory with practical learning.

Admission Process

Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) will admit students on the basis of merit on 50% of the sanctioned strength for each course. Student needs to register himself with ACPC after the result.

50% seats of the sanctioned strength of each course are Management Quota, admission of which is handled by the institute as per guidelines of ACPC.

Laboratories – Automobile Engineering

The department of Automobile Engineering boasts of four state-of-the-art laboratories to facilitate the young curiosity, to cater to the exclusivity of technology, and consolidation of fundamentals. The field of automobile engineering is an amalgamation of technological advances and fundamental principles. The recent advancements in environmental conservation, alternative fuel research, hybrid technologies as well as basic IC engine performance, repair, and understanding modules are encompassed.

Two and Three Wheeler’s Lab

To develop an understanding of the latest technological advancements and educate 6th-semester students about contemporary technological innovations, the two and three wheeler’s lab is set up on the ground floor of the Bhanwar Building. The laboratory comprises cut sections of various systems used in two and three wheeler’s, the electric version of two-wheelers.

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Lab

The department of Automobile Engineering offers the elective to study refrigeration and temperature control science. The laboratory comprises of continuous freezer, Ice candy unit, HVAC set up, and cooling tower. The laboratory also caters to the subjects offered by the department of mechanical engineering.

Automobile Engine Lab

To establish the total understanding of working/studying the parameters/analyzing the heart of an automobile, the engines. The laboratory is equipped with various test rigs (diesel/petrol), exhaust gas analyzer, rope brake dynamometer, cut section of entire four-wheelers, and various other modules to perform and study the core of engineering.

The laboratory also is designed to perform various experiments such as an engine test rig that can accommodate blends and futuristic alternative fuels.

Automobile Systems Lab

The understanding of various automobile systems is the key to establishing an understanding and developing the imagination and vision to analyze/design/optimize automobiles for the future. With the same mission, the automobile systems laboratory is well equipped with every mechanical component of the automobile (two and four-wheelers).

Vehicle Maintenance and Garage Practice Lab

The aim of the department of Automobile Engineering is not only focused on educating students to analyze and design the machines but to teach how to repair/diagnose/replace various components and systems of an automobile.

The laboratory consists of industry-oriented repairing/diagnosing setups such as injector cleaning machine, wheel balancing machine, wheel alignment assembly, required pit, and tools for servicing a car and a car to perform various processes. The realization and technique of servicing grooms the aspirants for better.

Automobile Electrical and Electronics Lab

AEE stands for Automobile Electrical and Electronics. The need of the hour of automobile engineering is to understand the electronics associated and better the electrical systems included in an automobile. The modern version of an automobile encompasses various sensors, electronic control units, motors, alternators, and various electrical as well as electronic systems.

The laboratory consists of various models and cuts sections to cater to the curiosity of the students.

Automobile Component Design Lab

The Automobile component design laboratory showcases the various components of an automotive the achieve clarity while designing the same component biblically. The design process remains the core subject of the engineering offered. The visible experience enables students to achieve clarity and capability.
