Department of Science & Humanities

Department of Physics

About the department

The department of  Sciences and Humanities is one of the core centers at the university, which strives to deliver core knowledge of sciences and English language.

Physics involves in-depth study of the basics of nature. It not only helps search the answer to the questions such as what led to the big bang or how did galaxies form or the philosophy of existence, but also enables students to apply the concepts of physics in the real world.

Physics plays a vital role in the education of chemists, Physicists, engineers and scientists, as well as practitioners of other physical and biomedical sciences. Recognizing the demand for skilled Physicists, Scientist, Engineers and in the Industry and institutes, Indus University has established the Department of Physics.

Chemistry is a subject of basic science, which impeccably bridges other natural sciences like physics, geology & biology. By studying the fundamental properties of substances and their transformations, the students who aim to be a chemist will be able to find out the solutions of many scientific challenges and contributes to solving many of the significant societal challenges faced by the world today. The developments in chemistry during the last few decades have been phenomenal. The credit goes to the re-discovery of the importance of chemistry in virtually all walks of life. United Nations declared the year 2011 as the International Year of the Chemistry (IYC 2011).

The Department aims to educate and train students who have an inclination for literature and language. Literature being the corner stone of Language studies will be delivered through an experiential method where students will explore and analyze fictional and non-fictional works of prose, poetry, drama and classic works of art. The syllabus has also been designed to assist students for further research in the field of Literature. This will assist students in gaining language and ultimately in making a career in the domains of content writing, editing, proof-reading; copywriting, public relations, reporting, teaching, and novel writing on acquiring a Degree.

Students interested in Language can also opt for English Language Teaching. The course is designed to train Language Proficient Workforce of tomorrow. Students will be learning aspects of language teaching including, but not limited to phonetics, syntax, phonology, morphology, semantics, and pragmatics along with Principles of Language Teaching, Materials Development, Second Language Acquisition and Language Testing & Assessment. Upon completion of this programme, students will master the following three fields of linguistics: theoretical, descriptive and applied linguistics. This course shall open several doors in the field of academia as English Language professor, translator or trainer in private firms, forensic linguist with reputed syndicates or a lexicographer.

Excessive demand for linguists and creative individuals makes English literature and English Language Teaching the most sought after subjects in developing economies like India.

At IISHLS of Indus University, Physics is introduced to students in the courses to form a solid foundation for the upcoming future. The lectures are an amalgamation of theory and practice. Practical sessions are conducted in the laboratory, wherein experiments are carried out by students individually. Special interactive problem-solving sessions are organized on a weekly basis. Tests are planned regularly to assess the grasping power of students and to improve their performance based on it.

The aim of the course is to train post-graduates with advanced knowledge and understanding of Advanced physics and technology with higher order critical, analytic, problem solving and research skills; ability to think rigorously and independently to meet higher level expectations of academia and research with sufficient transferable skills.
