Hands on training to Assemble “Solar Study Lamp”

Student Solar Ambassador Workshop 2019

October 2, 2019 (Wednesday)

An initiative of IIT, BOMBAY (India)

INTRODUCTION

“Student Solar Ambassador Workshop ” was organized at Indus University on 02nd  October 2019 by the Department of Mechanical & Civil Engineering an initiative by Institute of Technology (Bombay). Total of 125 numbers of students from Civil and Mechanical Engineering the department had actively attended this workshop.OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP

  • ENABLE THE STUDENTS TO MAKE THEIR OWN SOLAR STUDY LAMP

First of all, students were made to identify tools used in assembling Solar lamp. Tool identification is followed by testing of all technical components. Once testing gets completed, all the physical components are identified & were assembled in a proper sequential manner.

  • TO KNOW THE IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND IMPORTANCE OF SOLAR ENERGY

Use of carbon-based fuels for fulfilling our energy needs results in climate change which is becoming a very serious issue nowadays. Over the past 100 years, the earth’s temperature was found to be increased by 1°C as a result of Global Warming. Moreover with the use of conventional fossil fuels environment is continuously degraded so there is a need to switch over to Renewable Energy sources. Out of all renewable energy sources, Solar energy is the most preferred renewable source since sunlight is in abundance amount in our country Therefore Solar energy is one of the best ways to produce & fulfil our energy needs. With the help of Solar photovoltaic energy technology, electricity can be generated directly from the sunlight

DETAILS OF EXPERT SESSIONS

On the Occasion of “Student Solar Ambassador Workshop” an Expert Session was arranged to have an idea about the following theme, Theme 1:-

Keynote Address-1 on title “Introduction& Sensitization Session on Climate Change, Energy Access and the Importance of Solar Technology” by Dr Satya Sai Kumar Zilella, Director- ISSCC, Indus Sustainable Smart Cities Centre.

He mentioned the current scenario of adverse environmental impact due to the usage of fossil fuels. Since it will deplete in the near future so there is a need to switch over to Renewable energy sources. He discussed various benefits of Solar PV technology & has cleared misconceptions such as high maintenance of solar PV modules, problems in the rainy season, low efficiency etc.
