Father of ‘BrahMos’ Padma Bhushan A. Sivathanu Pillai visits Indus University
Indus University had the privilege to organize a special guest talk by Padma Bhushan A. Sivathanu Pillai on 8th September’16 at university campus. Dr. A.S.Pillai is regarded the Father of ‘BrahMos’ with an illustrious career spanning four decades of association with Indian Space Research Organization, Defense Research and Development Organization & Integrated Guided Missile Development Program, where he shouldered responsibilities with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. This eminent personality stands as a beacon of inspiration for budding engineers of the varsity. In his special talk titled ‘Advances in Strategic Technologies- Breakthrough to the Future’ he highlighted the revolutions that have led to the development of technology that we use today, deliberated on the history of rockets and missiles & detailed the unique technology used by India and Russia under BrahMos. He also suggested that incubation centres must be set up by universities to promote research work and to motivate students. He enriched the young minds through his charisma, dynamism and sheer brilliance.
Dr. Pillai has worked in ISRO and DRDO for the last 40 years under the great visionary leaders Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Prof. Satish Dhawan and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He is a technology leader in the field of launch vehicles and guided missiles. His contributions to the successful development of SLV-3 as a core team member and evolution of PSLV configuration for ISRO have been remarkable. Dr. Pillai is a recipient of various prestigious awards including Technology Leadership Award, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Research Award, Organization for Industrial, Spiritual & Cultural Advancement International Award from Japan, Raja Rammohan Puraskar, Lokamanya Tilak Award, Performance Excellence Award from Institution of Industrial Engineering, and the most importantly Padma Shri (2002) & Padma Bhushan (2013) by the Govt. of India for his contribution to Aerospace and Missile Technologies and “ORDER OF FRIENDSHIP” by the Govt. of Russian Federation, the highest Russian Award for the foreign citizens
Dr. Nagesh Bhandari, President Indus University sent his good wishes in absentia. Dr. S. Tandon Dean Academics introduced the guest to students and faculty members of the institution. Enthralled by his presentation, students had a fruitful interaction with the guest. Dr. Pillai was then felicitated by Dr. S. B. Sharma, Executive President Indus University. The auditorium was packed to full capacity to hear words of wisdom from such a distinguished personality.
