Indus University marked the beginning of this year academic journey with the induction of its First Year B.Tech Students of Batch 2014-15. The Induction Program started on 31stJuly’14 at Indus University Campus lasted over three days. The day kick-started with formal address by Dr. Nagesh Bhandari, Patron Indus University, Mrs. Ritu Bhandari, Associate Patron Indus University, Shri Jagat Shah, Board Member Indus University, Dr. S.B. Sharma, Dean of Research & Development, Dr.H.N.Nagaraja Dean Academics (IITE) & Dr. K.G.Sudhakar Dean Admin (IITE) along with Mr.P.J.Maniar Registrar of Indus University. The induction was presided over by Mr.Haribhai Patel an IAS officer (Rtd) who gave a motivational and inspiring talk to the budding Engineers.Each of the dignitaries shared their views about the potential of youth and their vision about Indus.

The second half of the day was dedicated to camaraderie. Peer interaction was conceptualized, organized and implemented by the senior students under the supervision of faculty members. They organized many ice breaking activities to help the new students be comfortable with the new milieu. Students gave free expression to their thoughts in these activities and a spirit of camaraderie developed between the new inductees. A strong and lasting relationship developed due to these activities.

The second day was a purely surreal experience in the form of motivational spiritual session by Swami Damodar Das from Akshaypatra foundation. The conversational interaction of Swamiji successfully transported students & faculties alike onto a different plane turning the entire atmosphere of the venue into one magical hypnotic spot. The main theme of his talk was about Emotional Quotient, Intellectual Quotient and their relevance to Spiritual Quotient. The second day also saw Ms. Jasbir Kaur Thadani who spoke about malicious stress and its impact on student life. Her rich experience as a Counseling Psychologist at IIT Gandhinagar aided her in understanding stress related problems that students face. She also mentioned some simple and handy tools to remove such negative emotional barriers.

On the third day of the Induction Program students were briefed by the Deputy Inspector General traffic. His informative talk on traffic rules, civic sense and the legal effects on the students who involve in the criminal act of ragging. He also ventured into the areas of narcotics and its ill effects of the careers of young people, like the ones who had gathered in the packed auditorium. Students sat rapt in attention as the speaker supported his talk with relevant and real life incidents from his tenure with law enforcement. The second and third day of the induction program also showcased the young talent of Indus family, namely the senior students who welcomed their juniors with myriad talent based performances such as dance, singing and instrumental music.

The Induction Program presented a glimpse of the world that awaits these students within & outside the classroom. It fused various experiences that helped students understand vision, mission and the manner in which to achieve these.
