Induction Programme 2012

Day 1

Indus University marked the beginning of a new journey as it enrolled its first year students of Batch-2012. The students were given a warm welcome starting with a new tradition of a week-long induction programme. On the first day of the programme i.e. 23rd of August 2012 they were addressed by Dr. Nagesh Bhandari, Patron Indus University, Mrs. Ritu Bhandari, Associate Patron Indus University, Dr. D.P. Giridhar, Vice Chancellor Indus University & Dr. Kalpesh Parikh, Pro Vice Chancellor Indus University, Dr. S.B. Sharma, Dean of Research & Development & Director of Indus Institute of Technology & Engineering, Mr. Maulik Dave, Member of Board of Governance & Mr. P.J. Maniar, Registrar Indus University. The dignitaries briefed them about Indus & it’s vision for them. Our patron asked them to remain focused & develop a global aptitude for the time ahead. These small steps would mark a quantum leap in their career.

The highlights of the day were Student-Faculty Interaction & Campus Tour. The objective was to make students comfortable with the new ambience and to enable them build a healthy relationship with the environment. They were also shown an indigenously prepared Motivational video on Indus as a nurturing ground.

 

 

Day 2

The Second Day commenced with a Motivational Session by Swami Dheerdamodar Das from ‘ Akshaypatra’ Foundation. A highly enlightening talk by Swamiji on building Self-Confidence was followed by different Interactive classroom sessions planned by faculties in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, & Communication Skills. These sessions in small batches further helped the student in better understanding of the ambience and building a relationship with their faculties and thus meeting the objective of the induction programme.

 

 

Day 3

A session on Traffic Awareness was organized on the Third Day. It was conducted by Mr. Siddharth Kharti, DCP-Traffic Police, Ahmedabad. It was a highly interactive session as he handled the queries of the young minds, all inquisitive about the functioning of the Department &managing of the growing traffic of Ahmedabad. The students were also quizzed about the traffic signs and the symbols. Another feature was Peer-Group Interaction was aimed at students getting to know each other and the environment which would help them to spend their academic life in healthy camaraderie.

 

Day 4

An educated student is one who is developed holistically with an exposure to the varied aspects of learning. Personal and Social Development cannot be contained into watertight compartments and disseminated in small measures. Student development can only be achieved through a balanced mix of subject knowledge with a difference in delivery. Thursday, 26th July saw a student’s being exposed to a plethora of activities to orient them towards role of education in their development and the importance of their development in the progress of the society. The students of First Year Engineering attended introductory lectures of Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Communication Skills which, rather than being based on theory, were filled with activities and quizzes. Students gave free expression to their thoughts in these activities where they experienced how thorough knowledge of their basics could help them understand more advanced topics. The second half of the day saw Mr. Kamal Dabawala, Training & Placement Consultant, addressing the students about the role of motivation and its impact in achieving what one dreams about.

The last part of the day was devoted to the exemplary city of Ahmedabad wherein students were shown different videos about the diversity of Ahmedabad and how it fuels their dreams and ambitions. Students also participated in a quiz about Ahmedabad.

 

 

Day 5

The Fifth Day included Thalassemia Awareness and Blood Test Drive conducted by Prathama Group. The objective was to spread awareness regarding the Thalassemia condition. The Environment Awareness session entailed screening of the movie ‘The Inconvenient Truth’ to inform students about the impact of ‘Global Warming’. Secondly there was a presentation by a faculty of Indus on ‘Green Habits’ which aimed at inculcating such safe environment-friendly habits in their daily routine.

On the same day two very talented alumni of Indus University, Mikhil Musale and Anish Shah who were Associate Director and Script Writer of the recently popular Gujarati movieKevi Rite Jaish’ were invited to interact with the students. They even displayed some of the scenes from the movie along with songs, which were shot in Indus Campus. They interacted with the new batch of 2012 and motivated them to do something outstanding and follow their dreams.

 

 

Day 6

The Valedictory Session on 28th July,was marked by the presence of an eminent personality likeMr. M.N. Patel, the President of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industries. Industry was also represented by thepresence of HR managers from leading corporate, who shared their thoughts on the requirement of the industry. Student achievers in the Final Quiz termed ‘War of Boffins’ were felicitated and the Chief Guest in his speech congratulated the management, faculty and staff of the University for the Successful Completion of the programme and also wished the student a happy learning process at Indus. The concluding ceremony is done with the tree plantation by students.

The Induction Program was designed to present a glimpse of the world that awaits these students outside the classroom. It compounded various experiences and learning and provided students with a comprehensive learning milieu.
