Training program on
Manufacturing & Application of Advanced Structural Composites
11 - 12 October 2019
The importance of advanced composite materials is increasing day-by-day due to weight-to-strength ratio. Hence these material have applications in the field of Civil Engineering (mainly structural engineering), Aerospace Engineering (mainly aircraft body and wings), and Automobile industries (mainly exterior vehicle body parts). The Director-ITE Prof Dr-Ing Anupam Kumar Singh and HoDs of Civil, Mechanical, and Materials & Metallurgical Engineering understood the importance and requested Mr Rahul Shah- Director, Ankita Enterprises Ahmedabad to organize a 2-days professional development program for ITE faculty members. Mr Rahul Shah has more than 8-years of industry experience and received an advance certificate course on Advance Composite Manufacturing from Reinnecance Aeronautics Associates Ontario, Canada.
Polymer composites are the most advanced material which finds their usage in all fields of engineering including as mentioned above due to high strength, light weight, and non-corrosive properties. These materials can be tailor-made to suit the specific requirement such as varying flexural or/and tensile strengths, the specific example can be marine structures. The training was divided into four sessions viz. One- fiber reinforcement and resin matrix system and remaining three sessions covered hands-on laboratory experiment on advanced manufacturing techniques where participants were given detailed understanding of Vacuum bagging technique and demonstrated with three number of practical.
The training was conducted as per industrial safety standards guidelines suggested under ISO:45001 (2018)-Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OH&S). All the faculties have well received training which was evident in their positive feedback. Participants express their full-confidence in training quality and found to be confident in self-organising such trainings in future.
